Fox Centre Unit Team
Gray is our resident fox expert and leads the team in the care of our foxes. As well as spending a lot of time at the Centre, he can be seen out and about in the Wirral Fox Rescue van, visiting sick and injured foxes in their own habitat. A life-long animal lover, Gray started working with foxes at Freshfields Animal Rescue a decade ago. He has been dealing with our local foxes ever since, setting up the rescue in Hoylake in 2021.
Clare has been involved with Wirral Fox Rescue since October 2023, for three years prior she supported the Hedgehog Unit. Working with the foxes and within the team has been a life enriching process.
Whilst away from the Fox Unit, Clare spends time with her family and friends as well as her dog Ellie and two cats. Clare enjoys knitting and finds it impossible to walk away from a wool shop without making a purchase!
Mark has been involved with Wirral Fox Rescue since working on a soft release pen with the team in April 2024. Mark enjoys working with the foxes and is discovering their very different personalities and traits.
Mark enjoys spending time with his dog Ellie, his three grandchildren and visiting rural Kenya as much as possible. When he is not working he enjoys carving.
Mark has been volunteering at Wirral Fox Rescue since May 2023. Having always loved foxes, his passion has grown all the more since helping to rescue young Tiny from his cousin’s allotment last year. This led to Mark being offered a more hands-on role at WFR, where he’s been gaining invaluable experience in the rescue and rehabilitation of foxes. Mark is also a manager at ACS, based within the food manufacturing industry. Mark loves motorcycles, cars and camping.
Nic joined Wirral Fox Rescue about 3 years ago. Having always had a love of wildlife, the uniqueness of foxes made them her favourite and she jumped at the opportunity to work closely with them at WFR.
When she is not foxing it, Nic loves to dance, plays for a darts team and enjoys crafting when she has the time.
Rachel is a zoology graduate and has been volunteering with Wirral Fox Rescue for over a year. She is based at our fox centre; cleaning, medicating, feeding and generally caring for our patients. Rachel is maintaining a vet nurse course and when she has the time enjoys making and selling her artwork (including some foxy items to be sold at our fundraising events). She is also a keen traveller.
Sarah has been a volunteer at WFR since May 2023. Her passion for foxes began on her allotment, where she spotted a poorly cub (Tiny). With the guidance and expertise of WFR, Tiny was rescued, successfully treated and rehabilitated. Sarah was offered a voluntary role at WFR, which she says has so far been the most rewarding use of her spare time. She has been a civil servant for 24 years and is proud cat mum to a beautiful 4 year old tuxedo teddy bear called Caspar.
Shop Team
Dee started volunteering for us in 2018. She co-manages our Charity Shop with her colleague Win. Dee is passionate for the welfare of animals and in her spare time loves reading, creating art work and all things craft-related. She is also a seasoned traveler and recently combined her two loves by volunteering at an animal sanctuary in Australia.
Anwen (known to everyone as Win) has been volunteering with us since 2018. Having originally helped out with animal care, her focus is now on our Charity Shop, which she co-manages with her colleague Dee. Win adores animals of any kind and she has a houseful – her home is nicknamed “The Petting Zoo” by friends! Her pastimes include reading and going to the cinema and music gigs.
Angela started volunteering with us in 2018. She is a regular volunteer in the Shop and enjoys her time there. In her spare time Angela’s hobbies are yoga, reading, local history and travelling. She also co-ordinates our charity events with her colleague Viv.
Lisa started volunteering with us in May 2021. Lisa is our top Shop window dresser! She is a Eurovision-nut and can’t resist a sequin! Lisa is also a keen traveller, especially to far-flung locations. She also adores animals and when living in Brazil for 2 years, she rescued a dog called Messy and a cat called Carmen Miranda, who all now reside together in the UK.
Andy started volunteering in our Charity Shop in 2019. Known as Harry by his family as he enjoys “pottering” in the garden and feeding the birds and the wildlife. He loves entertaining his grandchildren with his wife Viv and enjoys travelling.
Christine started volunteering with us in 2020 and loves her time in the Shop. When she gets some free time, she enjoys spending time in her garden, growing her own veg! Christine also loves cross-stitch and jigsaws and is often found checking out the Shop’s jigsaw selection for her next purchase.
Derek started volunteering for us back in 2018 at our original charity shop in Wallasey. Now retired, Derek volunteers with Marj in the Shop every Monday. He enjoys reading and takes the opportunity to travel whenever he can.
Fliss started volunteering for us in the Shop in late 2023, just in time to enjoy the Christmas Rush… a trial by fire! Fliss enjoys artwork, writing poetry, cats and teddy bears (hence her beloved cat is called Teddy). She is also an avid reader and always has a good book recommendation for our customers.
Lizzie started volunteering with us in June 2023. She loves chatting to our Shop customers and knows most of them! A great salesperson, Lizzie could sell kangaroos to Australia. Her pastimes include crochet, painting and meeting new people.
Marj started volunteering with us in 2018 and she and Derek were the first volunteers in our original charity shop in Wallasey! Marj enjoys reading, travelling and socialising in her spare time.
Viv started volunteering with us in 2020. She loves meeting all our customers and her pastimes are photography, reading, travel and feeding all the wonderful wildlife in her garden. Viv also coordinates our charity events with her colleague Angela.
