About Wirral Fox Rescue
We are the only dedicated Fox Rescue and Rehabilitation charity based in Wirral, with our rehabilitation centre located in Hoylake. We aim to help sick and injured foxes in Wirral and the surrounding areas and we work with fox-loving members of the public to do this. If possible, we will treat the foxes where they live; avoiding the need to transport them and the related stress of removing the fox from its territory.
We operate this “trap, treat and release” programme for foxes who do not require hospitalisation but are unlikely to recover naturally if they are not treated, such as those with a minor mange infection. Sometimes this on-site approach is not possible however, and very sick or injured foxes will need to come into our rehabilitation centre for additional care.
Once admitted, the foxes begin their treatment, often with support from our vets, and start their road to rehabilitation and ultimate release back into the wild. Foxes are territorial animals, so it’s a tricky balancing act – minimising time in captivity vs. maximising their survivability prior to release.
